Teresa Kupin (M.A. Boston College; A.B.D. Ph.D. Candidate, University of Minnesota) is a Visiting Instructor of Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. She is originally from NYC and Morelos, Mexico. Teresa is a scholar, artist, and community activist whose research and artistic interests focus on the deconstruction of femininities, the creation and sustainability of non-traditional gender identities, and the multiple intersections between drag performance, gender studies, and pop culture. Her Ph.D. thesis is titled "Femininity UN/STAGED: Unearthing the Speaking Object," and will be presented for defense in May 2009. Teresa's visual art and fashion design have been featured throughout the Twin Cities in solo exhibits, and also as part of the St. Paul Art Crawl. This year, Teresa was chosen to be the featured artist at the Walker Art Center and presented a hybrid performance/academic discussion regarding the role of gender and performance in the life and works of Frida Kahlo.
